April 2026 Newsletter

News:

  • After discussions with ARRL regrading reporting, the Form 2 will be in by the 15th and the Form 4 requirement is end of the month. Therefore, that section of the report will be a month behind and may include additional information.
That means the newsletter will go back to being out at the beginning of the month.
  • Winlink nets will be task based going forward.
    1. The first Monday will be the normal check-in sent to AC1IX.
    2. The second Monday will be a weather report sent to AC1IX.
    3. The third Monday will be an ICS-213 message sent to AC1IX.
    4. The fourth Monday will be an ICS-213 message (required signup) for a peer-to-peer receive or a gateway pickup (let me know which in the signup).
    5. If there is a fifth Monday, it will be a regular check-in sent to AC1IX.
  • Friday nights, while not ARES, if you are interested "Weekly Wind Up Net brought to you by the Northeast Kingdom Amateur Radio Club. It starts at 8:30 PM local time on Friday on the NFMRA linked repeater system. "
  • Also from the Northeast Kingdom Amateur Radio club, Wednesday nights on NETAC1 they have a net.
  • I have an idea for a project for this year. This part will be conceptual, so that all licenses can participate. Design (complete with a fiull parts list) an HF system capable of digital communications. This will be a field kit, capable of backpacking. It will need to have the following limitations:
    1. Portability: 20 lbs including antenna (exclude battery weight for this phase).
    2. 15 minute setup to on-the-air.
    3. Capable of WinLink, FLDigi, and JS8.
    4. Self contained battery source.
    5. Bonus if you have a way to replenish the battery.
    6. An antenna not reliant on trees or structures for implementation.
  • We will need technical people willing to review the ideas with the goal of a fully funcioning unit or two for either this years SET or next built based on the best ideas.
