February 2026 Newsletter

News:

  • Silent key: Ken Lanoue (N1RZ) has passed away. He was a past president of SOVARC. He was also an Emergency Coordinator appointed back in 2013. There is a writeup in the SOVARC January Newsletter.
  • As of this post, Mt Equinox UHF is still off-line.
  • The February 2026 edition of the Chittenden County Region 2m FM simplex net will be at 6:00pm EST on Saturday, February 7, 2026, on 146.55 MHz.  NCS will be running the special call sign W1AW/1 for all those who want to log it on 2m simplex.  This net will also be right in the middle of the Vermont QSO Party & will follow the announced 5pm 40m “activity hour” for Saturday.  Stop on by, test your simplex gear, work W1AW/1, and log some points in the VTQP!
  • Winlink and JS8 nets have experienced CW traffic on the frequency. After looking at propagation and monitoring frequencies both audibly and using a waterfall display (the digital mode built into Ham Radio Deluxe), we will be moving to 7090.0 kHz. We will also continue to use Monday's in February for setup with full peer-to-peer attempted in March.
  • We will be adding in more JS8call testing with the idea of creating designated relay stations. These stations will store messages to allow for other stations to call in to receive their messages. JS8 could prove vital in bad conditions and the relay/storage functions important in handling traffic.
  • Website has updated infomation including reviews on DigiPI, Boomerang Hotspot, VARA, and Ham Radio Deluxe.
