Ham Radio Deluxe

I have to use different types of rig control, but my favorite is Ham Radio Deluxe. It has the best interface I have found and a direct connection for WSJT and JS8Call. I can control all aspects of my IC-7100 using the interface. Since it runs on my touchscreen laptop, the larger screen lets me access settings without having to go through menus.

There are also a series of tools, including being able to do some digital modes in the app itself. For me, launching the application turns on the radio, and I can shut it down when I close the application. I like the professional display and the options at my fingertips.

I wish other applications, like FLDigi and WinLink, also had the ability to connect to this rig control. While I have had issues with OmniRig and FLRig, this was seamless. I have had to restart my computer with the other modes, especially OmniRig, in order to clear the connections.

The downside for some might be the cost, as other modes can be free. This has an upfront cost and an annual fee for new features and support beginning in the second year. There is a free trial so you can try out the features and see if it fits with your operations.

Another feature I use a lot is the logbook. Running things through that gives me a copy and allows me to post it programmatically to QRZ. It cleanly handles callsign lookups, and you can choose the order in which it searches, including itself. It automatically writes my FT8 contacts (it does require a confirmation), so my logs are kept up to date.

If you like to do digital contacts and not have to worry about logging, if you would like an easy-to-use interface to your radio settings, then this is the right software for you.

    DigiPi Review

Let me begin this review with some context. I am a firm believer in the need for emergency communications. I also know that voice alone is an inefficient way to convey information. Digital modes let us send that information quicker, without the need to spell things phonetically. This allows for more accurate communications, which means…
